The Bringer of Doom live report Sandnes
Published on October 2nd, 2016
Funeral / Abyssic / Evig Natt - Sandnes Rockeklubb
Last September 24th was the second date of "The Bringer of the Doom" tourné. The bands holding the tour are Evig Natt, Abyssic and Funeral... Although it consists only of 2 live dates it was a great opportunity for new bands like Evig Natt and Abyssic to promote their material.
First performance was in Haugesund, Flytten Pub the previous Friday 23rd... but let's stick on what happened at Tribute...
Doors opened at 20 hrs and people started to arrive to the local.
The first band to play was Evig Natt (Eternal Night in norwegian). For those not familiar with the band; they play goth doom metal - with clean female and doomed malegrowling male vocals. The band is from Karmøy.. a city not far from Stavanger and just a neighbour of Haugesund.
Evig Natt had played before on Blastfest, Brynerocken and other gigs around... The band was formed in 2004 and has 3 full-length. A long pause though, from their second album (2010) to the third released this year, 2016 - self titled Evig Natt..
As said, clean and very strong female vocals characterise Evig Natt. The music is as they describe "goth doom". Those familiar with bands as Theatre of Tragedy (from Stavanger) may have a feeling that Evig Natt revives the that goth line that has been missing... Kirsten has a really strong presence and attitude in the scenario and the band is actively showing their potential... it is just about time to see Evig Natt touring out of Norway
Abyssic is a new band from the east coast of Norway. They play symphonic doom/death metal and have recently released their first album "A winter's tale" through Osmose Productions.
The band consists of well known musicians in Norway. André Aaslie, Memnock, Ageir Mickelson, Elvorn.. if their names are not familiar to you maybe bands like Susperia, Gromth, Images of Twilight, Borknagar are..
So here we are talking of experience musicians that really got to surprise with a well structured doom/death metal accompanied with a hint of sympathy and a contrabass! Memnock really impressed one and others having an orchestral contrabass and making the tunes flow and give a special taste to the low tunes plaid by Abyssic.
The two first bands had a quite short performance 30-40ish minutes... so they were opening for Funeral from Drammen.
The band is active since 1991 and well recognised and settled. Though their style has changed a bit over the years, being in the early ages more doom/death heavily downtrend to a more goth/doom nowadays.
Their last full length was released in 2012, "Oratorium" - and yes it sound a quite long ago, 4 years now - but they are still present in the scene.
Keyboards makes the main atmosphere of the music accompanying the vocals - deep growling and clean giving a dramatic scene in the scenario - which characterises the genre. The music flows naturally and there is a feeling of bringing disaster to the scenario... for someone who is more used to see black/thrash/death alive... it is interesting to see other genres to perform to their best hitting the publimkum with their low stooned tunes!
