Day three

After the recuperating from yesterday, the rain came down two more times but that was it. The sun has pierced through the clouds and the summer festival was back in the game. We left all what was wet to dry out and went on our routine path to town to replenish. Going through camp area we saw a couple of metalheads with one driving a mini motorcycle with a small cart attached behind and pulling the other one in it, so we said; Next year! Warm soup and goulash was precisely what my body needed and with the refreshing apple & elder cider, we replenish out batteries and were ready to hit the festival, after some shopping of course. First band on the list was Gutalax, crazy guys from Czechia with even more crazier fans in the pit. Toilet paper, toilet brushes, toilet seats, everything what a normal restroom has, was in the crowd pit. As we got on our position, the MetalDays transformed to Obscene Extreme. Explosion of faeries, horse heads, naked guys and glitter ravaged the scene. What to say, only that it was fun to see and a bit dodgy to photograph from all the crowd surfing and toilet accessories.

After the Obscene Extreme atmosphere, it was time to meet the legend itself, mighty Abbath.

No stranger to MetalDays, Abbath played with Immortal back in 2007 & 2010. In battle armour he climbed up and crab walked to join the King ov Hell on stage. Setlist included both the new tracks and the classic ones he played with Immortal. Some loves him, some don’t but one thing is for sure, he can make every frown upside down. For the last song,  playing the All Shall Fall, we were going live stream and at the end the mighty Abbath run off the stage and up to a slippery hill to greet his beloved fans. As he descend, he tripped on the muddy grass and fall onto his guitar. Luckily, the battle armour soften his fall and as he rose up, he gave his fans a chance to pluck of the grass from his guitar. He came, he played and he conquered. After it, we met up with Abbath and toasted a drink for fantastic show.

Next band on the billing was Bloodbath. Nick Holmes death vocal in Lost Paradise edition was absolute music to my ears. Enjoyed the show, went out for couple of drinks and waited out the queen of metal, Doro. As a headliner of the day, the energy in that woman was at the top, but ours were half empty. From Gutalax to Doro, it was time to head back to the camp. As we left on her last song, we could hear six more songs after it so we had our concert in tent with her goodbyes und danke, long in to the night.

Day four

Woken up by the summer heat, we decided to head out to the beach. Passing by the fixed New Forces stage, we shortly hangout in Monster’s promo tent, equipped with basic drum set for anyone interesed in playing some solo or just to kid around on how “great” they sound. Chilling in the Soča was good enough to ease up the heat. Heading back, we checked the Kobra & Lotus at Lemmy stage, and after we met with the vocalist Kobra Paige. After that, we met up again with Abbath, but this time as Olve. Chatted with him as we met up back in 2007, and having a photo from then he carefully checked and replied that we haven’t aged a bit. Still a bit sour from last night show and fall, I’ve offered him a small bottle of rakija which he recognized as a moonshine, wished him a great show for tonight as he danced of with our photographer.

We rounded up the day with the legendary tribute to Motörhead – the Bömbers. Consisted of Tore aka Fast Tore, Olve aka Killminister and Pez aka Party Anima Taylor, the Lemmy’s name was cherished with both the band and the crowd enjoying every minute of Rock n’ Roll. Alright!

Day Five

Last day we had a vacation on vacation, headed up the town to replenish and went down to the third and largest beach and chilled all day. The stunning emerald and turquoise river with its cooling temperature of only 8C attracted many to cool and have fun with most imaginative inflatable toys. It was like a parade on water, from colourful unicorns to flamingos. In the evening we packed our stuff in tents for tomorrow trip back and went to browse around metal markets. Last day was headlined by Heaven Shall Burn, but we stayed at our camp hanging with friends and listening the last bands.

As the Saturday crawled up, we left the scene of party and weather mayhem behind us with a full dose of relaxation, adrenaline and fun to bring back home. MetalDays, we thank you and see you back in 2018.
