HELL THURSDAY, CLUB EXIT, OSIJEK 12.03.2015

Published on March 18th, 2015

People of Osijek had the chance to enjoy a real metal treat last Thursday on a concert in Club Exit including the following names: Kistvaen (ROM), Memorain (GRE), Defiant (CRO) and Floating Worlds (GRE). It was a unique event simply because Osijek didn’t host such an international and genre-versatile concert for a long time. From melodic metal/rock, thrash/speed metal all the way to depressive black metal – a bit of something for everyone. Plus, although their tours are partially organized by Rock Tour Agency, this was the only concert on which these four bands performed together.

Floating Worlds had the opportunity to open the Hell Thursday. The band has five members and they play an interesting combination of melodic rock and metal with some elements of power metal and often emphasized keyboards. So far they released two full-length albums. In spite of drummer's and singer's illness, because of which they had to cancel some gigs before this one, they really did their best and made an excellent opening for what was about to come next – and that was Defiant.

Defiant is a band which plays death metal and it is already a well-known band in Osijek. The audience was now fairly larger in number and it seemed that they have enjoyed the exclusive setlist of songs from the upcoming album “Blackened“ Defiant played on this concert. Not so long ago there were some changes in band's line-up and they remained without one guitar. It made them lose some melodic aspects but gain speed and fierceness, and it seems they feel pretty comfortable about that. We spoke with Kris about the concert organization and the rest of Defiant's tour: “We as organizers are satisfied with this gig and the audience' response. We hope that in the future more people will come at underground metal concerts and show their support. Defiant continues the tour together with Kistvaen. We expect to have a good time!“

The third band that got on the stage in Exit was Memorain. As a part of the Zero Hour tour, this was the second show in Croatia for these Greek thrash/speed metalheads. This being their first show in Osijek they didn't focus only on the last album (“Zero Hour”), instead they played songs from the whole discography which counts 6 albums – an excellent way of presenting the band to the new audience whose feedback was really great.

Ilias from Memorain had only positive comments: “All in all, we are satisfied with the gig and the organization itself. Exit is great and the audience is excellent. We are glad for having the chance to play in Osijek.” He told us that he is satisfied so far and that they are continuing the tour in Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria.

And, in the end – Kistvaen. The gig was late from the beginning, so Kistvaen got on the stage around 01:00. A bit too late for some guys, but for those who came only to listen Kistvaen it was worth waiting. This Romanian band came to present us their latest album “Desolate Ways”, and it was their first concert in Croatia. Melodic riffs and combination of growl/scream/howl vocals completely mesmerized the crowd. From headbangers and moshpitters to the ones who stood motionless absorbing everything that came of the stage – absolutely everybody enjoyed. In favor of this goes the fact that they played three encore songs, two of them from the old album and the cover of Mayhem’s Freezing Moon.

This event showed that the metal crowd in Osijek yearns for this kind of gigs regardless of the genre, and that for sure they are hoping to see such an event again.
