A NIGHT OF UNHOLY BLACK METAL AT MOČVARA, ZAGREB 01.11.2014
That conclusion was based on a small number of people who came to support Black Cult, a band from Rijeka which had the honor to open this unholy evening. Heavy but melodic riffs and vocals worthy of a true black metal band are some of the main qualities they possess. Add to that the scenography which included long black gowns and hoods, lots of smoke, red lights, torches and voilà, you have a performance to remember! In somewhat less than an hour, these guys showed that they know damn well what they are doing. They joined experiences gained by playing in many other bands (Gorthaur's Wrath, Ashes You Leave, Unholy Inquisition, Castrum and others) and created a truly laudable project – Black Cult. Wow!
Black metal fans finally had the chance to satisfy their appetites this Saturday. Namely, an event called “A Night of Unholy Black Metal” was organized in Močvara club in Zagreb. Around two hundred visitors could enjoy in crème de la crème of Croatian black metal, i.e. in bands Black Cult, Manheim and Frozen Forest. Around 9 pm people slowly began to gather in front of Močvara. A few of them joined the warm up party inside the club, drinking beers and listening to black metal (of course), while most of them stayed outside. Chilly and a bit foggy weather gave a special mystical tone to the whole evening, to such an extent that people must have forgotten that the concert starts at 10 pm.
Next was Manheim, black metal rock ’n’ roll band or black ‘n’ roll, as they are often described. Band from Zabok had a slightly bigger support concerning the number of people present there. They livened up the whole atmosphere a bit, so one could see men’s underwear ‘flying around’ the stage, a few hands in the air and some headbanging. In a nutshell – an interesting band and a nice performance.
Last but definitely not least – blasphemous Zagreb-based black metallers - Frozen Forest! Corpse paint, black candles and blood meant that we were about to attend a true black metal ritual. Fairly full Močvara, headbangers in the front rows, horns up and a bit of moshing hinted that this was the performance the audience was waiting for all along. They showed their real support in the end, shouting for more, which of course invoked dark trio back on the stage. The concert ended with band’s encore, but the after party continued late into the night.
